Taipei Guangxi Association Visits Guangxi University, Donates“Dr. Ma Junwu Memorial Scholarship”

On the afternoon of April 22, a delegation led by Mr. Peng Guigang, President of the Taipei Guangxi Association, visited Guangxi University. Accompanied by officials from the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the delegation held a donation ceremony for the Dr. Ma Junwu Memorial Scholarshipand carried out a series of cultural exchange activities.

On behalf of the University, the head of the Student Affairs Office extended a warm welcome to the guests from Taiwan. He noted that Guangxi University was founded in 1928 by Dr. Ma Junwu (馬君武), hailed as amaster of a generation,opening a new chapter in higher education in Guangxi. The establishment of the Dr. Ma Junwu Memorial Scholarship,he said, is a vivid testament to the deep kinship and mutual support across the Taiwan Strait, reflecting the heartfelt care of compatriots in Taiwan for students back home.

In his remarks, Mr. Peng said that every return to Nanning to visit young students at universities in his home province is not merely an itinerary, but a matter of great importance and sincerity. Affirming his belief thateducation is the most important investment,he expressed the Associations hope to help students focus on their studies and strive upward through the scholarship.

The Secretary-General of the Guangxi University Education Development Foundation introduced that, in memory of the Universitys first president, the Taipei Guangxi Association established a dedicated scholarship at the University in 2001. Over the past two decades, 98 students with outstanding character and academic performance have received this honor. Among the 10 recipients in 2024, all undergraduates proceeded to masters studies, and most masters students either continued on to doctoral programs or took up positions in service to society. The Associations generosity not only carries forward Dr. Mas original aspiration to revitalize China and develop Guangxi,but also injects warmth and strength into integrated educational development between Guangxi and Taiwan.

Speaking on behalf of the 2024 awardees, Mr. Chi Wucheng, a doctoral candidate at the School of Economics, said the scholarship, crossing the Strait, had helped him overcome financial difficulties and provided great spiritual encouragement. He pledged to uphold theJunwu Spiritand serve the Guangxi region.

At the ceremony, Mr. Peng and the Secretary-General of the Guangxi University Education Development Foundation signed a new round of donation agreements for the Dr. Ma Junwu Memorial Scholarship,followed by an on-site donation and a presentation of certificates. Mr. Zhou Minghan (周明翰), a young member of the Taipei Guangxi Association, donated a landscape painting symbolizing the enduring bonds across the Strait and the mountains and waters that connect the two sides.

After the ceremony, the delegation visited the Universitys main gate, Yucai Square, the University History Museum, and Quanxue Islet (an islet that inspires perseverance in learning), experiencing the campus where tradition and modernity intertwine, tracing cultural roots in every tree and stone, and deepening bonds through conversation.

This event served as both a relay of love for education and a solid step toward enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between compatriots on both sides of the Strait. Guangxi University will continue to uphold the concept thatpeople on both sides of the Strait are one family,work hand in hand with compatriots from Taiwan, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, promote integrated development, and create a better future together.
